Kissinger-Stanford 200
STANFORD, Cal. (AP) - Presidential adviser Henry
Kissinger, it was learned today, has applied his talents to resolve
yet another conflict, this time a domestic one. The dispute concerned
Stanford University's fired English professor H. Bruce Franklin.
Franklin, an avowed revolutionary, was fired for his part in
campus disruptions in 1971. In the settlement negotiated by
Dr. Kissinger, Franklin is to be taken back by Stanford, but
instead of returning to his old position as Associate Professor
of English, he will go instead to the prestigious Hoover
Institution for War, Peace and Revolution. When interviewed at
a victory rally organized by the Venceremos organization, Franklin
says that he expects to occupy a chair
of revolutionary studies. Dr. Glen Campbell, director of the
Hoover Institution had a different impression. "We", he said,
"are preparing an exhibit case in the lobby for him." When
asked about the discrepancy, Dr. Kissinger replied that naturally
there would remain some differences in viewpoint between parties
who have hitherto been so far apart, but that he was confident
that if both Franklin and Campbell were motivated
by a spirit of compromise, they would be able to adjust their
differences about matters of detail.
